| Introduction |
The discipline of nutrition has been remarkably grown over the years. A variety of sister disciplines such as Dietetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, Agriculture and Home Sciences have contributed to its advances and discoveries. The focus from curing nutritional deficiency course has shifted to searching the role of diet in the cause of chronic diseases and examining the importance of nutrients in maintaining good health. Achieving the optimal nutritional status of the patients (both in and out door) is the prime objective of using knowledge of nutrition.
M.Sc. Community Health and Nutrition is a value added degree for health professionals, but it is a professional course for those who already have sound knowledge of Food and Nutrition and are working as Dieticians/ Nutritionists in Health Organizations.

Eligibility Criteria |
MBBS with clinical experience in the field of paediatrics, cardiology, diabetes and urology etc, are eligible for PGD in Nutrition.
The following categories of students are eligible for PGD in Dietetics:
– M.Sc. Food & Nutrition (Home Economics) with teaching and Hospital experience.
– B.Sc. Community Nursing (16 years of education) with minimum of three years hospital experience.
Students completing 31 credits for either of the PGD in Dietetics or PGD in Nutrition are considered eligible to continue with M.Sc. Community Health and Nutrition programme.

| Scheme of Studies and Course Contents |
The students who earn total of five credits via either of Diploma routes would be able to proceed to M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition. It would be necessary for them to successfully complete the following five additional credits to obtain an M.Sc Degree.

| Enrollment |
All the students are first enrolled in PGD Dietetics/ Nutrition for the first two semesters. After the successful completion, these students are then eligible either to enter into M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition for research work or get the diploma and leave. Since the initial courses (1st two semesters) of PGD Dietetics/ Nutrition and M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition are same and all the students are enrolled together so the enrollment for both is shown in one for the last 3 years.

M.Sc Community health and Nutrition was first time launched in 2000. It is offered all over Pakistan once a year i.e., Autumn. The study centers are established at local teaching hospitals/ Institutions at Islamabad/ Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Peshawar and Multan. So far, 35 students ahve successfully completed their post graduation. Year and gender wise distribution of degree awarded students is shown in the Bar Graph.
