Centre for Public Health Nutrition Research, University of Dundee, Scotland:
A research based Higher Education M.Phil and PhD degree programmes have been launched for in-service health practitioners and teachers having postgraduate teaching and research experience in collaboration with the University of Dundee, Scotland. Technical advice and consultancy input has been extended generously by the expertise especially Prof. Dr. Annie Anderson, Dr. Wendy Wrieden and Ms. Karen Barton. This is first of its own kind higher degree programmes in Pakistan.
DFID Higher Education Link:
DFID Higher Education Link for M.Phil/ PhD Food and Nutrition was launched in January 2004. DFID and British Council under Higher education Link Scheme have provided funding for the programme in order to promote quality education and research at postgraduate level and to support the Science higher degree level programmes.
Kings College, London, U.K:
M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition, Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics have been developed/ launched in collaboration with Kings College, London, U.K
National Agriculture Research Council, Islamabad (NARC):
Most of the practical work involved in courses of M.Phil/ PhD i.e., Food Analysis is done in National Agriculture Research Council, Islamabad.
Pakistan Council of Scientific Industrial Research (PCSIR):
The practical work involved in different courses of M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition like Food Microbiology, Food Studies, Food Science and its applications, Human Nutrition is arranged in PCSIR laboratories. These laboratories are situated in almost all the major cities of Pakistan like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
Colleges of Home Economics, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi:
Time to time consultancy and technical assistance for all the programmes is being provided by the Home Economics Colleges.
Overseas Development Administration (ODA):
The HSSC Family and Community Health programme has been launched with the collaboration of British Council and ODA. ODA is the part of the foreign and commonwealth office responsible for Britain’s overseas aid to developing countries for global environmental assistance. Ms. Rosamund Herbert and Ms. Carrie Osborne from Nepal and Mr. Alan Beattie from U.K Open University were invited for the development of new educational initiatives in the field of community health and for the production of courses that focus on the subject matter of health at a variety of levels, from basic functional literacy programmes to intermediate level and beyond, along with the Allama Iqbal Open University. The programme is designed for the health workers with the insight that it would give students a comprehensive grasp of variety of forms of community health and would permit their further specialist training and/or re-deployment to be much more flexible and economical. It would also give them academic qualification, which would complement their vocational qualification. The programme is also for those students who want to make a better job of managing their own personal health, that of their children and families, and to contribute to the health of their local communities in an active and informed way.
Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO), Peshawar:
The course production of the B.Sc Vision Sciences programme is being done with the collabortion of PICO. Tutorials, practical workshops and internship for students are also carried out in this institution.
