M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition
   
Introduction  

Keeping in view the emerging importance of nutrition in the care of patients, M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition has been launched in collaboration with Kings College, London, U.K. The study centers are established at local teaching hospitals/ institutions at Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Multan. Qualified tutors are drawn from these institutions for providing necessary guidance to the students.

   
Eligibility Criteria  
  • Students completing five credits for either of the PGD in Dietetics or PGD in Nutrition are considered eligible to continue with M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition programme.

Minimum four semester (Two years)

AIOU credit requirement

Ten full credits

Course work

Eight full credits

Research/ Thesis Two full credits

After the completion of course work, the students will be allowed to undertake research work for thesis in the laboratories either at PCSIR or in the Nutrition laboratory of local teaching institutions or other scientific institutions to be approved by the University. Minimum duration for submission of thesis is one semester (Six months.

   
Scheme of Studies and Course Contents

The students who earn total of five credits via either of Diploma routes would be able to proceed to M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition. It would be necessary for them to successfully complete the following five additional credits to obtain an M.Sc Degree.

Practical Work

Five days practical training workshop for a Course Food Science and its Application is arranged in local teaching institutions like PCSIR, NIH etc towards the end of the study period during which practicals are conducted and demonstrations from subject experts are arranged.

Enrollment

 

 

All the students are first enrolled in PGD Dietetics/ Nutrition for the first two semesters. After the successful completion, these students are then eligible either to enter into M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition for research work or get the diploma and leave. Since the initial courses (1 st two semesters) of PGD Dietetics/ Nutrition and M.Sc Community Health and Nutrition are same and all the students are enrolled together so the enrollment for both is shown in one for the last 3 years.

M.Sc Community health and Nutrition was first time launched in 2000. It is offered all over Pakistan and once a year i.e., Autumn. The study centers are established at local teaching hospitals/ Institutions at Islamabad/ Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Peshawar and Multan.
